KIVALINA V. EXXON

In an epic battle against the world’s biggest polluters – the oil and gas corporations – Kivalina, a tiny village in Northwest Alaska struggles to survive and save itself from the consequences of global warming.

Biography

Ben Addelman is the director of three award winning feature documentaries. His first documentary Discordia (2004), about tumultuous Israeli / Palestinian student politics on a Montreal university campus, won several awards and screened at numerous international festivals including Human Rights Watch NYC.

His next film Bombay Calling (2006) profiled the changing lives of young, nocturnal call center workers in Bombay and was nominated for a 2007 Gemini Award for Best Social Political Documentary. It premiered at Hot Docs in Toronto and won the Grand Jury prize at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles. It also aired on The Passionate Eye and was broadcast on National Geographic International worldwide. Nollywood Babylon (2008), a feature documentary about Nigeria’s film industry that he produced, wrote and directed, screened at Sundance Film Festival 2009 as part of the world documentary competition and has continued on to other major film festivals around the world. It was broadcast on The Sundance Channel and Documentary and was released theatrically and on DVD / VOD by Lorber Films in the US in the fall of 2009.
 
Kivalina v. Exxon is his fourth film and will be released in 2012.
